FFKM: The Ideal Choice for Demanding Applications
Introduced in the 1960s, perfluoroelastomer (FFKM) refers to a range of high-performance polymer materials that provide superior chemical and temperature resistance to their earlier counterpart, fluoroelastomer (FKM). FFKM components maintain their physical properties in demanding environments, making them the ideal choice for chemical processing, oil & gas, industrial, semiconductor, pharmaceutical, and aerospace & defense applications.
By combining the elasticity of FKM with the superior chemical resistance of PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene), FFKM materials retain their properties while providing best-in-class resistance to aggressive chemicals. Different grades of FFKM have been engineered to offer excellent performance in applications with operational conditions that may include steam, plasma, and rapid gas compression situations.
Benefits of industrial FFKM
FFKM components are used in a variety of industrial applications and are integral to reliability in critical applications across a broad variety of industries. The use of FFKM is recommended as temperatures approach 230°C (446°F) or where ultimate chemical resistance is needed.
FFKM components are found across the Oil & Gas industry, including in Upstream where they are depended on for their excellent resistance to well fluids, gases, and other chemicals. In refineries and chemical processing plants, o-rings manufactured from FFKM are found in mechanical seals, pumps, valves, and compressors.
FFKM is also found in paint spray guns, analytical instrumentation, and other critical pieces of equipment where resistance to aggressive chemicals is paramount.
